Guruvayur Temple

The Guruvayur Temple, dedicated to Lord Krishna, has a rich history rooted in mythology and legend, with its origins dating back over 5,000 years.

According to legend, the temple's idol was first worshipped by Lord Vishnu in Vaikuntha, then by Lord Krishna in Dwaraka. After Dwaraka was submerged, the idol was brought to Kerala by Guru Brihaspati and Vayu, hence the name Guruvayur (a portmanteau of their names).

Historical records suggest the temple existed as early as the 14th century.
